I made it to Burlingame, CA for AnDevCon II. I have been doing a great deal of Android work lately and my job was kind enough to send me on a reconnaissance mission. So far the experience has been very good. This post is mostly note to rant on why I like Java at some time in the future. Spoiler alert, I don’t know I just do.

Hopefully, this trip with provide my page with a few quick easy posts over the next few days. There is a lot going on with the platform this year. Lawsuits and mergers, x86 taking the stage, and tablets to name a few. Also, the Bay Area is fantastic.

I really really like 6502s and 6502 derivatives. Not quite sure why exactly aside from the fact that they have powered some of the neatest machines of all time. What do I mean by neat? Apple Is and IIs, NES, all the perennial favorites.

That being said, I also like targeting code to 6502s. I’ve written a 6502 Lolcode compiler, and Java based soft processor as an Android learning experience. Some intangible seems present and I can only guess that it has to do the device’s genesis story.

It was designed as a cheap, but full featured alternative. In some ways, the story shines reflected glory on my general views of an open source / free software sort of world so it is likely my enjoyment is really a bit of self indulgence.

For most of my career, I have been pretty into bare metal computing. Recently I have had the good fortune to work with RESTful data publishing and I must say I have really enjoyed myself.

My wife has recently started working on a semantic web style project that might allow me to continuing “exploring the space” and I am super excited to see what she can come up with.
